The Electricity Authority of New Zealand has introduced new Level Playing Field regulations to improve market competition, reduce electricity prices, and enhance grid efficiency. According to the new rules, Generator/Retailers (gentailers) must offer independent retailers the same contract terms as their retail arms. Lodestone Energy, a renewable energy company, supports these measures, emphasizing their role in improving contract availability during peak hours and promoting transparent pricing. As per the new regulation, peak hedge rules will provide clearer price signals, helping consumers and retailers manage costs during constrained evening hours. Lodestone Energy has commissioned three utility-scale solar farms in New Zealand’s North Island and is building a fourth in Whitianga, with more projects planned in Dargaville, Manawatu, and Canterbury.
