The Sunstone Solar project, the largest proposed solar initiative in the US, has secured final approval from Oregon’s Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC). This milestone allows Pine Gate Renewables to begin constructing the 1.2 GW solar and 1.2 GW storage facility. Pine Gate acquired the project from Gallatin Power Partners in 2022. Pine Gate currently owns and operates 17 other solar projects in Oregon. The facility will connect to the Bonneville Power Administration via the Umatilla Electric Cooperative system. To offset agricultural impacts, Pine Gate partnered with Morrow County and local organizations. They will invest over $1,000 per project acre to support local agriculture. Discussions for PPA with utilities are underway. EPC process will start in 2025, with phased construction from 2026.
