Researchers from China’s Southern University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong have unveiled a co-adsorption (CA) strategy to enhance the performance of perovskite and organic solar cells. As detailed in Nature Communications, the method utilizes 2-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)isonicotinic acid (PyCA-3F) at the interface between 2PACz and perovskite/organic layers. This innovation reduces 2PACz aggregation, improves surface smoothness, and elevates work function, resulting in a more efficient buried interface. Power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) reached 25% in perovskite solar cells (certified at 24.68%) and 19.51% in organic solar cells. The cells retained 90% and 80% of their initial PCEs after 1,000 hours of operation, respectively. The study demonstrates a practical approach to advancing self-assembled monolayers, paving the way for improved efficiency and stability in solar PV technologies.
