Nordcell Group AB has announced plans to construct the world’s greenest solar panel factory, named GIGA ONE, in Sweden. The facility aims to operate solely on 100% fossil-free energy and hopes to achieve an annual production capacity of 1.2 GW. This equates to approximately 2.5 million solar panels each year, contributing to a 50% increase in Europe’s solar production. Nordcell aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 90% by 2030. The factory, which will cover all phases of solar panel manufacturing, is scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2025, potentially powering 600,000 homes annually. Site evaluations are currently ongoing in Sweden’s northern regions.
