Belgium based Virya Energy has announced the acquisition of BayWa r.e.’s Japan solar platform in December 2025. The transaction included the Japan-based operational and management team, providing immediate development, project delivery, and PPA management capabilities. A core team from BayWa r.e. Japan transitioned to Virya Energy, ensuring operational continuity, local expertise, and governance alignment. The integrated platform included a development and operating solar portfolio exceeding 60 MW DC across multiple prefectures. Virya Energy has focused on supplying renewable electricity to large corporate consumers through long-term PPAs. The acquisition marked Virya Energy’s entry into Japan’s renewable power generation market. The combined management team had developed, built, and operated more than 1,000 MW of solar projects in Japan since 2013.
