The US Energy Information Administration, a Washington D.C.-based government agency, has reported that developers planned 33 GW of solar capacity additions in 2025, representing half of projected new US electricity generation. The agency has said that large-scale solar installations were expected to reach a record high, while battery storage additions were also projected to set annual records. Texas, which was the leading state after surpassing California in 2024, is accounting for more than one quarter of total US solar capacity in 2025. Developers in Texas alone were planning 9.7 GW of new capacity additions, supported by rising power demand, available land, and favorable solar conditions. The Energy Information Administration has also cautioned that uncertainty remained for developers, as many federal incentives supporting solar projects were discontinued under the administration of President Donald Trump.
