Düsseldorf-headquartered Uniper, a European energy company, has signed a three-year contract with the state of Baden-Württemberg to deliver solar power to universities. Under this deal, Uniper will provide 86 GWh of solar power each year. The electricity will come from solar plants in Spain that were recently connected to the grid. Total delivery over the contract period amounts to 258 GWh. Supply starts on 1 January 2026 and ends on 31 December 2028. The universities in Ulm, Mannheim, Hohenheim and Constance are included in the agreement. Flexible guarantees of origin ensure supply is adjusted to actual consumption. This follows a 2021 gas contract between Uniper and the University of Stuttgart, running from 2023 to 2026. The University of Konstanz already covers 50 percent of its electricity needs through combined heat and power plants.
