Tranos starts construction of 800 MW solar plant in Nigeria

An 800 MW solar PV panel factory is under construction by Tranos in Nigeria to reduce imports, lower costs, and support national demand for solar products.

Tranos, a Nigeria-based engineering and manufacturing company, has started building an 800 MW solar panel factory in Ogun State. The facility, located on a 157,440 m² site, is intended to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported solar panels, which currently account for over 90% of supply.Tranos confirmed the first 400 MW production line is due to be commissioned in 15 to 18 months. Total capacity of 800 MW is aimed by 2027 to cater to domestic requirement and provide the base for exports. Tranos will also shift its existing plants in Lagos to the new location to increase manufacturing activities. Tranos anticipates its employee number to grow from 160 to about 400 in two years' time. The Ogun State government stated the project is in line with Nigeria's energy industry reforms and infrastructure development.
