Sunwealth, a Massachusetts-based clean energy investment firm, has partnered with Microsoft to develop 100 MW of distributed community solar over four years. Microsoft, headquartered in Washington, has stated that it will purchase renewable energy certificates from these projects to support its 2030 carbon-negative commitment. According to Sunwealth, the projects will be deployed primarily in California and will serve schools, affordable housing, nonprofits, and small businesses. Sunwealth is responsible for overseeing project development, while local solar and storage partners are tasked with installation and long-term maintenance. The company also said that it will upgrade existing solar installations at community sites across the US with BESS wherever it is feasible. The facilities are designed to reduce electricity costs, lower peak loads, and enhance grid resilience through integrated clean energy infrastructure.
