San Francisco-based Sunrun, a provider of residential solar and battery storage systems, has partnered with PG&E to launch the Local PeakShift Power program. The initiative will enroll approximately 600 solar-plus-storage customer homes to provide up to 100 hours of targeted grid support between June and October. It forms part of PG&E’s 2025 SAVE (Seasonal Aggregation of Versatile Energy) virtual power plant demonstration aimed at reducing infrastructure investments and lowering ratepayer costs. Sunrun will manage battery dispatches using Tesla’s grid services platform and Lunar Energy’s Gridshare software, enabling AI-based forecasting and optimized power delivery. Tesla Powerwalls and other batteries will be directed to meet grid needs at specific times and locations. Customers will receive a one-time payment of $150 per battery, with a 20% energy reserve maintained for backup use.
