The Ministry of Public Business Sector signed letters of intent with international financial institutions to finance the Dandara Solar Energy Project in Qena Governorate. The project aimed to supply electricity to the Egypt Aluminum Company (Egyptalum) complex in Nag Hammadi. The agreement was made between Dandara Solar Energy Company, a subsidiary of Norway-based Scatec ASA, and three lenders — the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the African Development Bank, and the European Investment Bank. Scatec ASA, through its Egyptian subsidiary, was to build and operate the solar facility for 25 years. The project was expected to cover a major share of Egyptalum’s power demand and reduce emissions by about 30%. It also supported Egyptalum’s alignment with the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and strengthened Egypt’s industrial decarbonization efforts.
