Risen Energy, a China-based manufacturer of PV modules, and PowerChina, a Beijing-based engineering and construction company, have completed a project supplying seven forest villages in Suriname with 5 MW of solar capacity supported by 14 MWh of energy storage systems. The system first replaced the earlier restricted electricity schedule of 6 pm to 11 pm by extending power availability throughout the day. According to PowerChina, this improvement was achieved by combining storage with solar generation to provide reliable supply for the communities. As per Risen Energy, diesel generators now function only during cloudy conditions or peak demand, reducing fuel use significantly. The initiative has expanded daily access to electricity for residents while simultaneously lowering reliance on diesel, and both companies noted it serves as a practical model for future off-grid energy developments in remote areas.
