PowerBank, a Toronto-based solar developer, has announced that three Nova Scotia community solar projects have secured $1.74 million in grant funding administered by Net Zero Atlantic. The projects are located in Sydney, Brooklyn, and Petpeswick and have a combined capacity of 12.4 MW DC, with funding allocations of $340,000 for Sydney, $960,000 for Brooklyn, and $440,000 for Petpeswick. PowerBank has partnered with Trimac Engineering for project development, while ownership was structured with AI Renewable Flow-through Fund holding 48% and either Potlotek First Nation or a local non-profit organization retaining 52%. These projects are part of Canada’s first Community Solar Program, which is targeting 100 MW capacity to help Nova Scotia achieve 80% renewable electricity by 2030 and a net-zero grid by 2035. Subscribers, including renters, homeowners, and businesses, were offered bill credits and savings of $0.02 per kWh generated from participating projects.
