The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched by the Indian Government, has achieved 10.09 lakh rooftop solar installations as of March 10, 2025. The initiative aims to provide free electricity to 1 crore households by 2026-27. Households can receive subsidies of INR 78,000 (~ $858) on installing up to 3 kW systems, while 12 Public Sector Banks offer INR 2 lakh (~ $2,200) collateral-free loans at 6.75% interest. Chandigarh and Daman & Diu have achieved 100% government building solar targets, while Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu lead in installations. The scheme mandates India-made solar modules and inverters, promoting domestic manufacturing, with a 27 GW rooftop solar target by 2027.
