Pivot Energy, a US-based independent power producer, has started construction of a 5 MW DC solar project in Weld County, Colorado, for the University of Colorado Boulder. Pivot Energy said construction was launched recently, under a 20-year subscription agreement enabled by Colorado Senate Bill 21-261. The portfolio is scheduled to be operational in early 2026 and is expected to generate 9.5 million kWh annually, equal to supplying 850 homes. The deployment will consist of about 8,000 solar panels over an area equivalent to four football fields and has integrated agrivoltaics, with around 100 sheep providing vegetation management and additional grazing land. CU Boulder has stated that the asset is part of its Climate Action Plan, which is aimed at cutting Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.Recently, Pivot Energy and Colorado State University have also announced a 20-year agreement for a 5.75 MW solar project.
