Okmetic grows first crystal in Vantaa fab expansion project

Finland-headquartered Okmetic grew the first crystal in its new puller hall, marking a key point in its fab expansion. The Vantaa site in Finland continued producing 150 to 200 mm wafers for MEMS, RF, and power markets. The new expansion, set to be fully running before summer 2025, aimed to more than double capacity and focus on 200 mm wafer production. Okmetic also kept making 150 mm wafers. Since 2004, it used a fab-lite model by working with long-term partners in Asia for wafering. Crystals were grown in Vantaa, while some wafering work was done by partners. Okmetic handled all steps, including quality and delivery, and its partners followed set standards and were checked regularly.
