NOA Group, a South Africa-based independent power producer, is building a 506 MW solar and battery storage hub in Free State province. The hub includes the 349 MW Khauta South and 157 MW Khauta West projects, which were financed through debt arranged by Standard Bank. According to NOA Group, Khauta South reached financial close in June 2025, while Khauta West secured financial close in July 2025. Khauta West is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, whereas Khauta South is expected in early 2027. The cluster is planned to connect through an overhead transmission line to an Eskom substation with strong grid availability. NOA Trading has secured offtake agreements through a 30-year generator PPA, with contract tenors ranging from 12 to 25 years. Upon completion, NOA Group’s facility is projected to generate 1,073 GWh annually, becoming South Africa’s largest single-asset PV facility.
