The national electricity utility of Namibia, NamPower has started construction of the Sores Gaib solar power station in Rosh Pinah, Namibia. The solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will have a planned capacity of 100 MW with a total investment of N$1.6 billion ($88 million). It is set to become the largest solar PV project developed by NamPower so far. The project aims to add solar power to Namibia's energy mix and reduce electricity imports. Funding includes a N$1.3 billion ($71.5 million) loan from German development bank KfW and additional funds from NamPower’s reserves. During construction, over 300 direct jobs are expected, with priority for local employment. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor has committed 25% of the contract value, amounting to N$356 million ($19.6 million), towards local suppliers. The station is scheduled to begin commercial operations in June 2026.
