Lodestone Energy, a New Zealand-based solar generation company, is set to begin construction of its first South Island solar farm in June 2025. The 42-hectare project in Clandeboye, Canterbury, has been leased from Clearwater Farm and will connect to the Alpine Energy distribution network. Lodestone Energy said that the facility is expected to produce 43 GWh of electricity annually starting from the Q3 2026. Ethical Power has been contracted to provide EPC services for the project. Lodestone Energy has planned native planting and sheep grazing to manage vegetation and reduce visual impact. The company has raised $50 million and expanded its banking facility with Westpac to support ongoing solar development. According to Lodestone Energy, electricity demand is rising due to increasing industrial electrification and EV usage across New Zealand.
