Leeward Renewable Energy, a Texas-based renewable energy developer, has begun construction on the 152 MW Twelvemile Solar 1 & 2 projects in southern Oklahoma. Twelvemile 1 & 2 were acquired from Red River Renewable Energy, a joint venture between SunChase Power and Eolian. Leeward Renewable Energy has included these projects in its 724 MW solar portfolio across Oklahoma, which also features the Mayes County Solar Portfolio. Once completed, Twelvemile 1 & 2 are expected to become the largest solar PV facilities operating in the state. Power delivery from the projects is scheduled to begin by early 2026, according to Leeward Renewable Energy. The projects are projected to generate $29 million in combined local and state property tax revenue over their lifespan. Leeward Renewable Energy has estimated up to 350 construction jobs will be created at peak development activity. Earlier this year, Leeward Renewable Energy collaborated with Google, SunChase Power, Eolian, and GRDA to initiate over 700 MW of PV portfolio in Oklahoma.
