India’s RE capacity hits 220 GW with solar leading at 48%

India’s total renewable capacity reached 220.1 GW by March 2025, with JMK Research reporting solar at 48% and 143.8 GW pipeline of renewable projects underway.

JMK Research & Analytics, an Indian energy consultancy, has reported the country's total installed renewable energy capacity at 220.1 GW as of March 31, 2025. Solar energy has continued to hold the lion share, at 48%, followed by wind shared 23% and large hydro occupied 22%. India installed 16.9 GW of utility-scale PV, 5.1 GW of rooftop PV installations, and 4.2 GW of wind capacity during FY 2025. These are rises of 47%, 72%, and 28% YoY respectively, as stated by JMK Research. In Q1 2025, utility solar of 5.93 GW, rooftop solar of 1.34 GW, and wind capacity of 1.87 GW were installed. There is an ongoing 143.8 GW of project pipeline and 66.1 GW more in the bidding phase waiting for auction results over the next several years.
