JA Solar, one of the world’s manufacturers of PV products, has stated that its Shanghai R&D laboratory has received TÜV Rheinland’s certification for power measurement uncertainty in solar cells. This makes it the first in the global photovoltaic sector to achieve such recognition. The certification, based on IEC standards, covered equipment performance, testing protocols, quality systems, and staff qualifications. The lab recorded a maximum uncertainty of less than 2% (k=2), ranking it among the most precise PV testing facilities worldwide. This level of accuracy supports consistent evaluation of materials and cell designs, improves product binning and performance assurance in manufacturing and enhances operational efficiency. At the industry level, standardized precision reduces data discrepancies, improves supply chain compatibility and lowers the likelihood of commercial disputes. The certification supports broader efforts to strengthen photovoltaic testing standards globally.
