UK-based Innova signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) to supply renewable energy to the Five Fords sewage treatment works. The energy will be sourced from Innova’s Wrexham and Cefn solar farms, which received planning approval in November 2022 and March 2023. The sites, with a total capacity of 15 MW, will power the treatment facility, with excess energy supplying other Dwr Cymru sites. As part of the agreement, Dwr Cymru upgraded its internal grid at Five Fords to improve power reliability. The PPA secured funding for the solar projects and reduced Welsh Water’s energy costs and carbon emissions. The generated power covered about 3% of its annual electricity use, equivalent to around 4,500 homes.
