Indonesia's state power utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has started installation of a 92 MW floating PV facility on the Saguling reservoir in West Java, around 180 kms away from Jakarta. The facility will be ready for commercial operations by November 2026 and is anticipated to deliver over 130 GWh of electricity per year, which will curtail around 104,000 tons of carbon emissions. PLN chief executive Darmawan Prasodjo described the Saguling facility as a significant step in the nation’s clean energy transformation. Indonesia has set plans to add 42.6 GW of renewable energy by 2034, with solar contributing 17.1 GW to the grid expansion. The investment details of the new project were not disclosed. The Saguling initiative follows a 1.7 trillion rupiah ($108.7 million) floating solar project in West Java developed by PLN’s subsidiary Nusantara Power in partnership with Masdar, part of Mubadala Investment Company.
