The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India said that the nation added a record-high of 34.4 GW of renewable capacity between January and September 2025, as robust solar and wind preparations lifted installations by 71.5% YoY. In particular, solar installations increased 68.9%, while wind installations went up by 88.8%, exceeding the cumulative additions of 2024. The cumulative renewable capacity of India, according to MNRE, is now at 247.3 GW, with 52% represented by solar and 21% represented by wind. Utility-scale solar installations came to a total of 22.5 GW, comprising 11.1 GW commissioned during the third quarter (Q3) of 2025, as well as another 5.8 GW of rooftop installations. Public sector banks have approved the total amount of INR 10,907 crore (~$119 million) in loans to rooftop projects throughout the nation. Gurugram-based JMK Research reported that India most likely anticipates additions of 11-12 GW in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025, which will set annual installations at levels very close to the 46 GW figure.
