Madagascar confirms 300 MW solar deal with Global South Utilities

The Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons has signed an agreement with Global South Utilities to develop 300 MW of solar capacity in Madagascar, starting with Moramanga.

Global South Utilities, a UAE-based energy developer and subsidiary of Resources Investment Company, has entered into a deal with Madagascar's Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons. The agreement is to develop 300 MW of solar capacity in Madagascar. The first project confirmed involves a 50 MW solar plant at Moramanga, along with a 25 MWh BESS. Global South Utilities estimates the project will be completed within 12 months and will feed power to the Antananarivo Interconnected Network. There is an agreement to sign a PPA for the 50 MW facility with Madagascar's national utility, JIRAMA. The parties have also agreed to pursue further solar projects up to 250 MW subject to comprehensive technical and economic viability studies.
