The General Corporation for Electricity Transmission and Distribution (GECTD), a state-owned utility headquartered in Damascus, Syria, has signed an agreement with Syrian-Turkish Energy Company (STE), an energy developer headquartered in Damascus. The agreement is for constructing a 100 MW PV power plant at Kafr Behm in Hama with a 12-month completion schedule. According to STE, bids for the project were assessed for efficiency and economic viability before final approval was granted. The facility is designed to connect directly to the 230 kV electricity transmission grid once operational. As per the International Renewable Energy Agency, Syria’s installed PV capacity was about 60 MW in 2023, and the project is expected to significantly expand the limited base.
