Gaia Renewables 1, South African investo, has acquired 10% stakes in the Linde and Kalkbult solar plants. The ZAR 200 million (~$11 million) deal was finalized after lender approval last week. South Africa’s Competition Commission approved the transaction in April 2025. The plants are in the Northern Cape and built under the first REIPPPP round. The seller was the IDEAS Renewable Energy Fund, managed by African Infrastructure Investment Managers. Gaia will issue preference shares to current shareholders to support this and future deals. Additional share issuances are planned over the next 12 months. Gaia Renewables 1 already holds a 16% stake in the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm. Gaia Fund Managers has completed 16 renewable energy transactions for investors across South Africa’s energy sector. The deal includes South Africa’s first independent solar power producer.

Linde and Kalkbult solar plants saw 10% stakes acquired by Gaia Renewables 1 from IDEAS Fund, managed by AIIM, with all approvals in place by July 2025.
