ESB, a state-owned electricity company headquartered in Dublin, and Bord na Móna, an energy and infrastructure enterprise based in Newbridge, have inaugurated the Timahoe North solar farm in County Kildare as their first large-scale joint development. The deployment, which was operational from early 2025, has an installed capacity of 108 MW and is supplying electricity to approximately 25,000 households across Ireland. The facility was developed with the involvement of contractors Voltalia, HMV Engineering, S&G Solar, and Wills Bros Group, and a Community Benefit Fund was established to support local cultural, environmental, economic, and social development initiatives. ESB has stated that the facility strengthens renewable generation needed for Ireland’s 2030 national targets, while Bord na Móna has stated that the plant is part of its 5 GW pipeline covering wind, solar, biomass, and biogas projects. Both companies have planned to deliver up to 500 MW of solar capacity under their partnership using Bord na Móna’s Midlands lands.
