Uganda has approved a 100 MW PV plant with 250 MWh BESSin Kapeeka Sub-County, Nakaseke District, as Phase I of its 1 GW solar-plus-storage program under Vision 2040 and the National Energy Policy 2023. Energy America, a US-based renewable energy technology provider, has said that its Nairobi-headquartered subsidiary EA Astrovolt is serving as the project’s lead developer. The plant is designed with high-efficiency solar modules, modular battery systems, centralized monitoring, and grid-stabilizing capabilities adapted to tropical operating conditions. EA Astrovolt will complete the feasibility study before the Electricity Regulatory Authority sets the tariff, followed by a PPA with Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited. Financing has been arranged through the U.S. EXIM Bank and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to support project execution. Ganymede Utilities is responsible for EPC delivery, while Centauri will provide advanced solar technology for the facility. Earlier this year, Energy America announced plans to commercialize a NASA-patented selenium bonding method enabling 30% to 40% solar efficiency across multiple US sectors.
