ADAS Planning, a national planning consultancy, has helped Econergy Renewable Energy, get approval to build a 30 MW solar farm in Berrington, Shropshire. Although the project was first recommended for approval in 2023, it was rejected because of concerns about how it would affect the landscape, farmland and skylarks. An appeal was made but got dismissed in 2024. Later, that decision was overturned due to a legal mistake about how skylark habitats were assessed. A second hearing took place in 2025, and this time the appeal was approved. The inspector said the benefits of renewable energy and better biodiversity outweighed the limited negative effects. A plan was also put in place to protect skylarks by creating new habitats nearby.
