Druk Green Power Corporation, a Thimphu-headquartered state-owned power generation company, has begun construction of the 120 MW Jamjee PVProject. The project is located on 396 acres in Maedwang gewog at 2,300 m elevation and is designed to generate 197 GWh annually. Druk Green Power Corporation has said that the project is expected to reduce Bhutan’s winter electricity deficits, which were previously met through imports from India. The project cost was estimated at Nu 4.7 billion (~ $52 million), and half has been funded through a concessional loan from the European Investment Bank. The remaining cost is being financed by Druk Green Power Corporation, while engineering, procurement, and construction work was awarded to the HILD-Rigsar Consortium on July 15, 2025. Construction is scheduled for completion within 18 months, and the Salang Tendrel groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 16, attended by Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
