US-based Colorado State University (CSU) and Pivot Energy have entered a 20-year agreement to develop a 5.75MWdc virtual net metering solar project in Weld County, Colorado. Enabled by Colorado Senate Bill 21-261, the project allows CSU to use offsite solar energy without on-campus installations. Pivot Energy will build, own, and operate the ground-mounted system, transferring all RECs to CSU at no additional electricity cost. Once operational in Q4 2026, the system will supply 11 million kWh annually, increasing CSU’s solar portfolio by nearly 50% and supporting its goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2040.
