Chandigarh's renewable energy potential increased from 5 MW in 2014–15 to 90 MW as of July 2025, with the largest driver being rooftop solar on government buildings. As per the Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), installation on government buildings increased from 907 to 6,627 from March 2024 to March 2025, adding 25 MW. Meanwhile, private building installations saw a minor increase from 3,794 to 4,361, adding only 2.8 MW. As of July 2025, there were 10,988 solar systems installed on city buildings. CREST is also constructing a 4 MW floating solar power plant at Sector 39 waterworks. Another 8 MWp capacity is to be added in 2025–26, with public sector activity continuing to dominate deployment.
