CESI, an Italy-based engineering and technology company, has expanded its space energy sector with a new production line in Milan and the launch of CESI Space, a unit for space applications. According to the company, the €20 million (~$ 21.8 million) investment was partially funded through a Public-Private Partnership under ASI’s Space Factory 4.0 program and is linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. CESI has stated that the new production line has increased capacity by 200% and integrates five evaporators and a MOCVD reactor for semiconductor growth. The company has produced over 200,000 solar cells for more than 100 satellites and is the only fully European, Italian-owned producer in this sector. As per CESI, CESI Space is focused on developing high-efficiency triple-junction solar cells, which achieve over 30% efficiency even in extreme conditions.
