CDIL Semiconductors has set up India’s first solar bypass diode production unit in Mohali to support solar plants. The initial capacity is 25 million units per year, with plans to triple in two years. These diodes ensure solar panels keep working by bypassing faulty or shaded cells, preventing full panel failure. CDIL has developed ribbon-bound diodes designed to handle higher power loads. As one of India’s oldest electronics component manufacturers, the company produces various semiconductors, including transistors and diodes. The new production unit aims to reduce dependence on imports, with each diode priced between INR 20-30.
