Castillo Engineering, a Florida-based utility-scale PV and energy storage design firm, has been selected by Recon Corporation to provide engineering services for six solar projects in Illinois. The projects are located in Manteno, Elburn, and Franklin Grove, where sites include agricultural and conservation-sensitive land. Castillo Engineering has been responsible for civil and electrical design, ampacity studies, structural calculations, relay settings, equipment pad design, and PVsyst modeling. Some sites were constrained by central gas pipelines that restricted conduit crossings, and Castillo Engineering has created optimized, safe, and code-compliant layouts. At Franklin Grove, poles were repositioned by Castillo Engineering to protect wetlands while remaining compliant with NEC and NESC requirements. These projects have strengthened Castillo Engineering’s partnership with Recon Corporation and reinforced its presence in the MISO solar market. Previously, Castillo Engineering and Recon Corporation had also partnered on 15 MW of Illinois solar projects, highlighting their continued collaboration.
