Philippine’s Berde Renewable Inc. has offered a zero-capex solar model that allowed Philippine businesses to adopt solar without upfront spending. The company designed, financed, built, operated, and insured rooftop or ground-mounted systems. Clients signed 10- to 25-year PPAs at rates below utility tariffs. Berde carried capital costs, performance risk, maintenance, and typhoon-related repairs. The model attracted manufacturers, logistics firms, and property developers seeking lower electricity costs while preserving cash. Institutional clients viewed the structure as financially efficient, while some family-owned firms preferred ownership but later faced maintenance issues. Berde began acquiring existing systems and signing long-term offtake agreements. Falling battery prices enabled solar-plus-storage integration. Backed by external equity, Berde expanded distributed projects across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, targeting 100 MW capacity.
