Boston-based Ampion Renewable Energy, which manages community solar subscriptions, was appointed to administer Erie County’s ECLIPSE initiative. The Low Income Program for Sustainable Energy is designed to lower electricity costs for eligible residents in the National Grid and NYSEG service areas. According to Erie County officials, homeowners and renters enrolled in aid programs such as HEAP, ACP, Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF can receive up to 10% in bill savings. Enrollment is open and requires a current electric bill and proof of participation in a qualifying program. Solar panel installation is not required, and credits are applied directly to utility bills. Ampion has been tasked with managing the enrollment process and credit distribution. Ampion Renewable has produced over 2.2 billion kWh of clean energy and has saved subscribers more than $42 million through its 1.5 GW community solar portfolio.
