Alternus Clean Energy, a US-based independent power producer, has partnered with Hover Energy, a US-based microgrid developer, to enter the UK microgrid market. According to Alternus Clean Energy, the UK market is valued at $17.8 billion and is projected to exceed $100 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 20.5%. Alternus Clean Energy has planned to deploy distributed energy systems including solar, wind, BESS, and generators, which can function both independently and with the national grid. These systems will be provided through Energy as a Service contracts, allowing customers to avoid upfront capital expenditure and pay usage-based tariffs. Alternus Clean Energy said that it is in advanced discussions for 10 projects with a combined annual generation of 5 million kWh. The first UK project announcement is expected soon. Hover Energy had previously entered the UK market in 2023 through an installation completed for the Ministry of Defence.
