US-headquartered Agilitas Energy, an independent power producer (IPP) in energy infrastructure, has acquired a 12.5MW solar project in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, from a local developer. The project is fully permitted, with construction expected in 2025 and commercial operations by end-2026. It is projected to generate about 16,000MWh of electricity annually, powering over 2,500 homes. The project will participate in Rhode Island’s Net Metering Credit (NMC) program, providing 100% credit for each kilowatt-hour produced. It qualified under the original rules before the state’s eligibility deadline. Credits will be sold to commercial, industrial, and public customers within Rhode Island Energy’s territory. It will also generate NEPOOL Class I RECs, supporting Renewable Portfolio Standards. Agilitas Energy stated the acquisition aligned with its approach to addressing regulatory and market challenges. The company noted that its role as an integrated IPP enabled it to deploy clean energy solutions more efficiently.
