Germany-based solar tech company, AESolar has introduced Terra E, that has come up with an elevated agrivoltaics system that combines energy generation via solar power with continuous agricultural use. The framework utilizes semi-transparent photovoltaic modules with approximately 40 % light transmission, allowing enough sunlight for crops while controlling soil temperature and conserving moisture. This method assists in the reduction of water loss as well as exposure of crops to harsh weather conditions. The system has been validated under varied agricultural conditions, including vineyards, orchards, and open fields, for operational efficiency and crop response assessment. Terra E collaborated with American Farmland Trust last year to apply Smart Solar techniques on farmland in 22 U.S. states, linking its research to field deployment. Joint efforts reflect the continued development of agrivoltaics as a path to research and optimize shared land use for agriculture and solar production.
