US-based Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) completed its 179 MW White Wing Ranch solar project in Yuma County, Arizona. The project, supported by a long-term power purchase agreement with Verizon Communications, enhanced LRE’s total operating capacity to over 3.3 GW. Built on 1,400 acres of private land, the solar facility connects to the grid via the 500 kV Hoodoo Wash Switchyard. It employed over 200 local workers during peak construction and used Terabase Energy’s Terafab technology for assembly. The installation marked the first large-scale use of the First Solar’s Series 7 photovoltaic modules, offering enhanced efficiency and a low-carbon footprint. White Wing Ranch will contribute to Yuma County’s economy with substantial tax revenues and promote long-term land stewardship by supporting native desert ecosystems.
