Kuwait plans to develop the $800 million Shagaya 3 and 4 solar power plants in partnership with Chinese companies and a local firm. The project, located 100 km west of Kuwait City, will be managed by a joint venture with Kuwait and China each holding 42.5% stakes, and a local company owning 15%. The Shagaya solar project spans 84 square kilometers and will supply power to Kuwait’s electricity ministry under a long-term agreement. It will operate under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with the Kuwait Investment Authority preparing a detailed report on its implementation.
