US-based Itron, Inc. is partnering with Australian energy provider Jemena to implement its Low Voltage Distributed Energy Resource Management System (LV DERMS). According to Itron, LV DERMS provides real-time data to address challenges posed by consumer energy resources, particularly solar power. Starting October 1, 2024, the Victorian Government requires rooftop solar systems to include utility-compatible inverters and reliable internet for grid management. Itron’s solution enables Jemena to remotely curtail solar output during supply-demand imbalances, as directed by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). The system integrates with Jemena’s network, offering insights to prevent grid overload and ensure reliability. With rooftop solar adoption at 30% in Australia, the initiative supports renewable energy growth and aligns with national climate goals for a sustainable energy future.
