Websol Renewable Private Limited, an India’s solar module manufacturer, has received approval from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for a greenfield investment to set up a fully integrated 8 GW solar manufacturing facility. The project is planned at the Naidupeta multi-purpose special economic zone in Tirupati district with an investment of INR 3,538 crore (~$ 392.37 million). The project comprised of 4 GW of solar cell capacity and 4 GW of solar module capacity and was planned to be developed in two phases over 120 acres. Commercial production was scheduled between July 2027 and July 2028, according to an official release. The state government also allotted 300 acres for a captive solar power plant to supply self-generated power to the manufacturing facility.
