Vidarbha accounted for 1,14,978 rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri SuryagharMuft Bijli Yojana, creating a generation capacity of 442.7 MW. Vidarbha made up 40% of Maharashtra’s 2,89,172 beneficiaries under the rooftop solar scheme. Nagpur led with 44,268 installations, followed by Amravati with 17,067 and Buldhana with 8,849. About 42,100 systems were already working, and many others were close to completion. The scheme allowed households to get up to 300 units of free electricity each month, with subsidies between INR 30,000 and INR 78,000 based on system size. Families could sell extra power to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), adding it to the state grid. Officials said this reduced reliance on traditional power and made households more self-sufficient.
