Tata Power, a Mumbai-based integrated power company, has plans for a 10 GW ingot-and-wafer facility in Odisha as part of an upstream manufacturing review. The company has examined Gopalpur and Cuttack as possible sites offering port access for future movement of materials. Tata Power currently operates 4.55 GW of cell and module capacity, which has increased the need for backward integration. Indian manufacturers were still importing upstream materials, and this dependence has continued to raise costs. Industry executives said that the planned facility was intended to support domestic and export requirements. The company has discussed possible locations with the state government, and Tata Power said that Gopalpur and Cuttack are being assessed for port-linked advantages.
