Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd’s first solar projects integrated with battery storage to deliver dispatchable renewable energy. These two projects, each with 15 MW of solar and 45 MWh of battery storage, will be developed on a build-own-operate basis in Karur and Tiruvarur districts. Tamil Nadu’s solar capacity already exceeds 10,800 MW, but battery integration marks a shift toward round-the-clock green supply. The new installations are expected to save Rs 90 crore(~ $10.8 million) over 25 years for Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd and serve as a model for future storage-based renewable deploymentsThe INR 200 crore (~ $24 million) investment aims to provide stable power during evening peaks and reduce reliance on thermal generation and costly market purchases.
