India-based government body MNRE has issued revised guidelines for series approval and laboratory testing of SPV modules under the Solar Systems Goods Order, 2025. The rules define product families and specify testing requirements for crystalline, thin film, and bifacial modules seeking compulsory BIS registration. SPV modules with capacities ranging from 0.2 W to 20 W used in solar luminaires are excluded until revised standards are notified. For series approval, laboratories must test at least two modules each from lower, median, and higher power classes. Minimum efficiency criteria require both lowest and highest power samples to meet thresholds prescribed under the Quality Control Order, 2025. If median power classes share identical areas, efficiency testing may be waived. Mandatory marking includes nominal wattage, tolerance, efficiency, serial number, year, and country of origin. Retesting is required for any changes in bill of materials, design, components, or manufacturing processes. The revised guidelines supersede earlier instructions and govern SPV module testing for BIS compliance.
